DOC 99 - Decision - Car 10

2026 Monaco Grand Prix

Published

Summary

Stewards rescind two 5-second penalties for Car 10 (Gasly) due to incorrect pit lane speed measurement, restoring third place and points.

Explanation

The stewards reconvened following a Right of Review petition by Alpine regarding two 5-second penalties imposed on Pierre Gasly (Car 10) for alleged pit lane speeding during the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix. The Official Timekeeper admitted a 77cm error in the measured distance between timing loops at pit entry, using 2692cm instead of the actual shortest feasible distance of 2615cm. This led to inaccurate speed calculations. Evidence showed Gasly did not exceed the 60km/h limit when corrected distance was applied. The stewards determined, with 'comfortable satisfaction', that no breach occurred. Both penalties were rescinded, the race classification was amended to restore Gasly to third place, and championship points were recalculated. Deposits for the Right of Review were ordered to be refunded under ISC Article 14.4.3. Other teams acknowledged known risks in the timing system, but no further actions were taken regarding other penalised drivers.
