Doc 26 - Infringement - Car 63 - Pit Lane Incident

2026 Australian Grand Prix

Published

Summary

Reprimand issued to George Russell for a pit lane incident blocking Car 41 during Practice 2.

Explanation

During Practice 2, George Russell (Car 63) inched forward from the working lane, partially obstructing the fast lane and causing Arvid Lindblad (Car 41) to drive over part of his front wing. The Stewards ruled that cars in the fast lane have priority under Appendix L, Chapter IV, Article 5b, and Russell failed to wait for a safe gap. A reprimand was issued as the incident was avoidable and impeded a car already in the fast lane.

FIA International Sporting Code - Appendix L - Chapter IV - Article 5b
b) Cars in the fast lane have priority over those re-joining from the working lane. Once a car has left its garage or pit stop position it should blend into the fast lane as soon as it is safe to do so, and without unnecessarily impeding cars which are already in the fast lane.
